NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer (0-1-2) gets set for their 2024 home opener as they play host to the visiting UTEP Miners (1-1-1) in a Wednesday evening matchup in Nacogdoches.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks return home for the first time this season following a season-opening three-game road trip that resulted in two ties and one loss for SFA. The 'Jacks will search for their first win of the season as well as the first win of head coach Ben William's coaching career at SFA. The Lumberjack have featured a well-balanced attack on both sides of the ball as they feature a constant offensive attack mixed with a suffocating defensive presence as they have totaled at least 10 shots in each of their three games and outshot their opponent in two of the three games this season.
Miners at a Glance:
The UTEP Miners have experienced a little bit of everything to begin the season as they opened the season with a tie against ACU, before winning their home opener against A&M-Commerce, and in their last match suffered a close 1-0 home loss to UC Riverside. The Miners will hit the road for the first time in over 10 days to open up a short two-game road trip as they will travel to Nacogdoches before traveling to Houston for a matchup with Houston Christian.
Scouting Report:
The Lumberjack offense is coming off their best game of the season against SMU as they totaled a season-high in shots (12), shots on goal (six), and goals (two). Ava Shannon exploded offensively for SFA as she totaled her first career multi-goal game of her career as well as her first career brace with goals in the 41st and 90th minutes against the Mustangs. Sawyer Kohutek also experienced a game of firsts as she tallied her first career collegiate assist and first career collegiate point against SMU on the Ava Shannon goal in the 41st minute.
The Miners are led offensively by the duo of Ana Quintero who has scored the team's lone goal this season while Taya Lopez has recorded the lone Miners assist this season. Quintero also leads the team in shots (three) and shots on goal (two), while Angelina Amparano has started all three games in net for UTEP and has recorded 13 saves.

Wednesday's home opener will feature the eighth all-time meeting between these two programs as UTEP holds a slight 4-3 edge in the all-time record over SFA. Wednesday night will feature the first time these two teams have squared off with each other in almost seven years as the last meeting was in 2017 when the Miners claimed a 2-1 home win over the Lumberjacks.
