
Lumberjack Track and Field Finish NCAA Regionals

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas- Stephen F. Austin's track & field team traveled to John McDonnell Field to take part in the NCAA West Regional Preliminary Round. The regionals were hosted by the University of Arkansas and took place from May 22nd to May 25th. The Lumberjacks had five athletes compete.
Jarvis Anderson qualified for the regionals after his 400m time of 50.21 ranked him 22nd nationally. Anderson qualified for the quarterfinals after finishing 15th in day one with a time 51.02. Jarvis finished with the 11th fastest time in the West at 50.61.
Gideon Mengich competed in the 3000m steeplechase after previously being ranked 52nd in the NCAA with a time of 8:47.95. He finished the week with the 18th fastest time in the West with a 8:53.82.
Nathan Kapel competed in the 1500m after previously breaking the school record. His time of 3:40.71 had him ranked 46th nationally. He finished 34th in the West with a time of 3:44.69.
Junior Cole Szegda qualified for the NCAA Regionals after his javelin throw of 66.68m placed him 63rd nationally. This is his first year competing at the Division I level. He finished 32nd in the Western regionals with a javelin throw of 62.17m.
Sheldon Noble represented SFA as the lone veteran on his team and made his third first-round appearance after being ranked 93rd in the NCAA with a mark of 7.56m in the long jump. He finished 39th in the West with a jump of 7.22m.
