
Lumberjacks Return Home for Weekend Series vs. Utah Tech

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks return home to host the Utah Tech Trailblazers in the final three-game home series of the 2024 season.
The Series
The Lumberjacks currently hold a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series over the Trailblazers. The two teams met for the first-time last season in St. George, Utah. SFA swept Utah Tech in the series. The last meeting between the two teams saw a Lumberjack victory by a final score of 6-5 in 10 innings.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks are currently 7-38 overall and 3-21 in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play. SFA won the first game in their weekend series a week ago at UTRGV in a shootout. The Lumberjacks won by a final score of 11-10 in 10 innings. Despite winning the first game from the Vaqueros last week, the Lumberjacks dropped the next two and UTRGV came away with a series win.
Brock Knoerr continues to lead the Lumberjacks offense with his .304 batting average. He has played in 35 games this season for the Lumberjacks. Cole Hill retains his lead in hits (50) and runs scored (28). Nolan Brown is the clubhouse leader with nine home runs and Tom Biggs leads the offense with his 31 RBI's. Reid Boyett has been a consistent pitcher for the Lumberjacks throughout the season. Boyett leads the staff with his 66 innings pitcher and 55 strikeouts.
A Look at Utah Tech
The Trailblazer's come into the weekend with a 10-34 overall record and are 8-16 in WAC play. Utah Tech will be on the road for the first time in nearly two weeks after having a five-game home stand in which they went 0-5 dropping all three games in a weekend series against Abilene Christian and losing to WAC foe Utah Valley in a high scoring midweek game by a final score of 17-12.
Levi Randall leads the Trailblazer's offense with his .333 batting average. Hank Dodson leads the team with his 46 hits and 72 stolen bases. Finally, Hunter Katschke leads the team with his nine home runs. Carston Herman leads the pitching staff with 49.2 innings pitched and 38 strikeouts.
Special Events
The Men and Women's Golf teams will celebrate their senior day on Saturday, May 4th, before the first pitch. The first 100 fans on Saturday will receive a Star Wars themed "May the 4th Be With You" t-shirt. On Sunday, May 5th, the baseball team will recognize their senior class after the conclusion of the game.
