
Nathan Kapel Breaks School Record in 5000m

WACO,Texas/WALNUT, Calif- The Stephen F. Austin track and field team competed in two meets this past weekend. Head Coach Robert Hansen sent one group to the Michael Johnson Invitational, and another in the Mt. SAC Relays. The Lumberjacks finished the weekend with two top three finishes. Nate Kapel also added to his list of broken school records in his freshman year.
Michael Johnson Invitational:
The Michael Johnson Invitational was hosted by the University of Baylor and featured a tough field of competition. Sheldon Noble led the way for the men's and women's group. With a mark of 7.47m he finished 2nd place in the long jump. Jarvis Anderson and Nicholas Grullon also posted top five in their events. Anderson finished 5th in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 51.48. Grullon also finished 5th in the high jump, with a mark of 2.01m.
Mt. SAC Relays:
Mt. San Antonio College hosted the Mt. SAC relays and it featured the largest field of competition that SFA has faced this season. Nathan Kapel continued his outstanding first season as a collegiate runner. The Indoor WAC Freshman of the Year once again set a new school record. Kapel ran a 13:53.50 to set a new SFA record and place 2nd in the elite section of the 5000m.
Up Next for the 'Jacks:
SFA's dual meet weekend will be followed up by next week's Texas Invitational. This will be the second time this season that the Lumberjack's outdoor team has competed at a track meet hosted by the University of Texas.
