NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks return home to Pilgrim's Park to play the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in a midweek game. Wednesday's matchup will be the first of a four-game homestand for the Lumberjacks.
The Series
The Lumberjacks are 7-2 all-time vs. the Golden Lions and have won four of the last five meetings. SFA holds a 4-2 record at home over UAPB and a 3-0 record on the road. The first meeting between the two squads came on March 2nd, 2011, which saw an SFA victory by a final score of 5-0 in Nacogdoches, Texas. The most recent meeting came on April 19th, 2023, with SFA winning 9-6 at home.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks are currently 5-31 overall and 2-16 in WAC play. Wednesday's game will be the first game back at home after a four-game road trip which saw the Lumberjacks travel to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar and CBU in Riverside, California.
Senior outfielder Cole hill leads the offense in three hitting categories; batting average (.311), hits (42), and runs scored (25). Tom Biggs leads the team in RBIs with 23 and Nolan Brown leads the team in home runs with eight. Reid Boyett still leads the pitching staff with his 56 innings pitched and 48 total strikeouts.
A Look at UAPB
The Golden Lions are currently 13-22 overall and 4-11 in SWAC Conference play. UAPB will be on the road after hosting Texas Southern over the weekend for a SWAC Conference series which saw the Tigers of Texas Southern take all three-games.
Edwin DeLaCruz leads the Golden Lions offense in four offensive categories. DeLaCruz leads in batting average (.519), hits (55), doubles (13), and total bases (76). He is also tied for the team lead in RBIs with 30 and walks with 15. Jaedon Willis leads the Golden Lions pitching staff with his 5.92 ERA. Jacob Ehling leads the staff with 51 innings pitched and Calvin McClendon leads with 46 strikeouts.
