
Lumberjacks Travel to face the CBU Lancers

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks hit the road to Riverside, California for a three game weekend series against the California Baptist Lancers in WAC Conference play.
The Series
This will be the second time the two teams have met for a series with SFA holding a 2-1 edge in the all-time series. The two schools played each other for the first-time last season for a conference series in Nacogdoches, Texas which saw the Lumberjacks take two out of three games and winning the series. The Lumberjacks won the last meeting on March 19th, 2023, by a final score of 10-9 to take the series from the Lancers. The only three games between the teams have come since SFA joined the WAC in 2021.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks come into the weekend with a 5-28 overall record and are 2-13 in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play. SFA was able to snap their losing streak with a Sunday win on March 30 over Tarleton State thanks to a walk off hit from senior Tom Biggs. SFA then played host to Abilene Christian and won the first game of the series thanks to, yet another walk off hit from Hunter Prescher, in the bottom of the ninth giving the Lumberjacks a 2-1 win.
Redshirt freshman Brock Knoerr currently leads the Lumberjacks with his .351 batting average. Senior Cole Hill is another powerhouse for the 'Jacks on offense with his .323 batting average and leading the offense in runs scored (25), walks (16), and hits (40). Nolan Brown is the power leader for SFA with his team leading eight home runs and .615 slugging percentage. Reid Boyett, junior RHP, leads the pitching staff with his 52 innings pitched and 42 punchouts on the year. Boyett also leads the staff with his .260 batting average against.
A Look at CBU
The Lancers come into the weekend with a 20-13 overall record and are tied for 3rd place with an 8-4 WAC Conference record. CBU is 3-2 in their last five games and most recently won their weekend series against Sacramento State taking two of three games. CBU also beat CSUN in a midweek game winning by a final score of 12-4.
Michael Carpentier leads the Lancers offense with a .331 batting average and 45 hits. Michel Simon leads the team with 10 home runs. Lukas Pirko leads the CBU pitching staff with a 2.50 ERA. Brandon Downer is the club house leader with 46.2 innings pitched and both Downer and Pirko are tied for the team lead with 35 strikeouts.
