Game 1: University of Louisiana 13, SFA 4
The first game of the Sunday afternoon double header saw SFA pitted against the University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns looking to avenge a loss yesterday to the Ragin' Cajuns. The Ragin' Cajuns drew first blood as they would score four runs in the top of the first, however, the Lumberjacks would respond instantly in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs thanks to Chloe Reneau's first triple of the season to score Madison Nguyen, and a Kelby Robbins single to left field to bring Reneau home and SFA trailed just 4-2 after the first. Louisiana would score another run in the top of the second, but Kelby Robbins would continue her solid day at the plate with another RBI single to left field in the bottom of the second to score Emily Land and cut the deficit to 5-3 in favor of the Ragin' Cajuns. After exchanging scoreless 3rd and 4th innings, the Ragin' Cajuns scored three in the top of the fifth to take an 8-3 lead, however, the 'Jacks refused to go down without a fight as they would respond in the bottom half of the inning yet again as Emily Land would send her second hit of the day to left field for SFA to bring Mallory Webb in from third and bring SFA closer at 8-4 in favor of University of Louisiana. However, the Ragin' Cajuns would tack on five runs between the final two innings to claim a 13-4 win over SFA.
The Lumberjacks recorded their third highest hit total of the season despite the loss as they recorded 10 hits against the Ragin' Cajuns as seven different Lumberjacks got in the hit column today. Kelby Robbins (2-3, 2 RBI) who has recorded a hit in four of her last five games, and Emily Land (2-3, R, RBI) who has tallied consecutive multi-hit efforts led the way for the SFA offense, while Madison Nguyen (1-3, R, BB), Chloe Reneau (1-3, 3B, R, RBI), Mallory Webb (1-3, R), and Ellie Vance (1-3) all joined Robbins and Land in the hitting column. Three 'Jacks tied for the team lead in putouts as Emily Land, Lexi Benson, and Chloe Reneau all recorded four putouts apiece, while Madison Nguyen recorded three putouts, and Emily Land led the team with two assists.
Game 2: UCA 7, SFA 0
The final game of the Central Arkansas Invite saw SFA in a rematch with the host University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears. The Sugar Bears would strike first in the bottom of the first, and were threatening to score in the bottom of the second with runners on first and second with only one out, however, Alexis Telford induced a tailor-made double play ball from Kennedy Fisher forcing an inning ending 4-6-3 double play to keep the game 1-0 in favor of Central Arkansas. The Sugar Bears would score two more runs in the third inning to hold a 3-0 lead heading to the fourth. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Sugar Bears would add four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead, which they would not relinquish in an eventual 7-0 win over SFA.
Ellie Vance (2-3) recorded her fourth multi-hit effort this season to lead all 'Jacks while stealing her fourth base of the season in the process. Brittany Coe (1-3), and Madison Nguyen (1-4) both recorded base knocks for SFA, while Amiah Galcatcher (0-0, BB), Mallory Webb (0-1, BB) who has reached base safely in three of her last four games, and Arwin Callaway (0-0, BB) all drew free passes on the day for the 'Jacks. Brittany Coe led the defensive effort for SFA with seven putouts, while Lexi Benson formed a nice compliment to Coe with five putouts of her own. Meanwhile, Chloe Reneau recorded her fourth game in her last five with at least four putouts, while leading the team in assists with three.
The Lumberjacks will put an end to their five-game roadtrip as they will return home to the friendly confines of SFA Softball Field when they get set to host Texas Southern University in a midweek Wednesday afternoon doubleheader. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader at SFA Softball Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CST, with the second game beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
