Lumberjacks Lose to Huskies in Final Game of Sugar Land Classic

The Houston Christian Huskies would draw first blood in this one as a two-run home run by the Huskies would stake them to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. However, the Lumberjacks had an answer for the Huskies and then some as in the top of the second the SFA offense exploded for seven runs. The scoring frenzy all got started by Cody Fleischer drawing a five pitch walk to lead-off the second, and Brock Knoerr knocking a single through the left side to put runners on first and second for SFA with none out. After Zerick Warren reached on a fielding error, Julian Thompson and standout freshman Colton Griffin worked back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to plate SFA's first runs of the game and tie the game at two apiece. Cole Hill would plate Zerick Warren to give SFA their first lead of the game at 3-2, which was extended to three runs thanks to a two-run double off the bat of Peyton Parker to put SFA ahead 5-2. However, the 'Jacks were far from done scoring in the second as Cal Martin launched his third home run of the season to deep left, scoring Parker and launching SFA ahead 7-2 after two full innings.
The Huskies would not go down easily as they would respond almost immediately with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third to knot the score back up at seven runs apiece. Colton Griffin would continue his strong game as he would lead off the top of the fourth with a double to right field on a nine pitch at-bat, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Cole Hill would do the rest as he would rip a ball to right field to easily score Griffin and put SFA back in the lead at 8-7. The Huskies, however, had the answer in the bottom of the fourth as an RBI double for Houston Christian would see this game tied once again, this time at 8-8 heading into the fifth. The Huskies offense would continue their success in the fifth and six innings as they would score seven runs combined between the two innings and found themselves ahead 15-8.
The Lumberjacks would begin to try and chip away at the Huskies lead as the Lumberjacks would load the bases in the top of the seventh thanks to three straight singles from Cody Fleischer, Brock Knoerr, and Zerick Warren, which allowed Bryce Yosko to drive Fleischer in and cut the Huskies lead down to 15-9. The Huskies were able to respond yet again plating four runs and winning the game by a final score of 19-9.
The Lumberjacks are back in action on Wednesday February 28th at Pilgrim's Park in Nacogdoches as they will take on ULM for a midweek game. First pitch is set for 6:30 P.M. CST. You can follow all the action on ESPN+ or on live stats at www.sfajacks.com.
