Lumberjacks Lose to Cardinals in Late Night Showdown

HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost to the Lamar University Cardinals in a late-night showdown on Saturday night.
The Cardinals got the scoring started in the top of the first inning plating three runs and taking the lead 3-0. Colton Griffin led off the bottom of the inning with an infield single but the 'Jacks couldn't get else going. The Cardinals led 3-0 after one complete.
After giving up three runs in the first inning Reid Boyett threw six scoreless innings to keep the Lumberjacks within striking distance. After seven innings the Cardinals led 3-0.
Lamar pushed one run across in the eighth and ninth inning to lead 5-0. The Cardinals held the Lumberjacks off the scoreboard all night and won the game by a final score of 5-0.
Brooks Caple (1-1) took the win on the mound for the Cardinals and Reid Boyett (0-1) took the loss for the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks will finish the Sugar Land Classic Sunday the 24th when they play Houston Christian in the final game of the tournament. First pitch is set for 6:00 P.M. CST.
