Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks storybook season continued on Thursday night in their first overtime game of the season against the Lady Demons In what proved to be a heated back-and-forth defensive game, it was leading goal scorer Jayme Bailey who netted the game winner for SFA. The goal occurred in the 98th minute as Maddie Bowers split the middle of the defense and found Bailey streaking down the right side of the field and Bailey did all the rest as she sent a perfectly aimed shot into the upper left-hand corner of the net to lift the Lumberjacks over the Lady Demons in overtime.
Lions at a Glance:
The East Texas A&M Lions will look to continue their trend of upsets on Sunday as they are fresh off knocking off no. 2 seeded Corpus Christi 2-1 on their home turf on Thursday evening. After a scoreless first half from the Islanders and Lions, the second half provided plenty of offense as all combined goals came within 15 minutes of each other. Southland Conference Player of the Year Kaydence Ramirez started the scoring for the Lions, while Savannah Powell netted the eventual game winner for the Lions in the 68th minute.
Scouting Report:
Maddie Bowers and Jayme Bailey continue to be the backbone of the SFA offense as they are now ranked first and second on the team in points. Bailey scored her team-leading ninth goal in the win over the Lady Demons, while Bowers dished out her team-high 11th assist on Bailey's goal. Meanwhile, Sierra McCluer was a brick wall in goal for SFA as she tallied five saves including multiple clutch saves in the second half and overtime to keep the Lady Demons scoreless and allow SFA to win in overtime.
Kaydence Ramirez netted her 11th goal of the campaign in the win over the Islanders to open up the scoring as she tallied 11 goals and four assists on the year to take home SLC Player of the Year Honors. Meanwhile, Savannah Powell scored her third goal of the year which proved to be the game winner for the Lions, while Veronica Pacione stayed busy in net for East Texas A&M as she recorded five saves in the win.
Series:
Sunday's high-stake matchup will feature the fifth all-time meeting between these two Southland foes with the Lions leading the all-time series 3-1. These two schools met earlier this season in September as the Lions handed SFA one of their two conference losses this season with a 2-1 home win over the 'Jacks.
