VERONA, Wisconsin- Stephen F. Austin women's cross country runner Mercy Kipchumba is headed north to Verona, Wisconsin this weekend to run in the NCAA National Cross-Country meet. The race will take place on Saturday, November 23rd at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. Mercy will compete in the women's 6k race at 9:20 A.M. CT.
Mercy, a freshman from Kenya, will compete in just her third race of the season for the Ladyjacks. Mercy's finish at the South Central Regional was enough to earn her an at-large bid to the NCAA National Meet. Mercy is the fourth woman athlete in school history to qualify for the event and the first runner to qualify since Lauren Smith competed in 2012.
"The weather is wintery in Wisconsin this weekend, but Mercy is up for the challenge," said head coach Rob Hansen. "She really likes the challenging course and we're both excited for her to go out and compete hard."
