
Ladyjacks Fall to Lady Lions in Hammond

HAMMOND, La.- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (18-7, 10-2 SLC) traveled to Hammond for their third matchup against the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (20-4, 12-0 SLC).
The Ladyjacks started the match off with a three to nothing run that included a kill from Camryn Hill and Katherine Holtman and an ace from Hill. However, the Lady Lions came back with a three-point run of their own to tie the first set up. Later in the set, SLU went on a 6-0 spurt that gave them a 12-7 lead. The Lady Lions continued to steadily increase their lead the rest of the first set and won the set by a score of 25-19.
SFA started hot in the second set to with a 7-3 run and then SLU cut the lead down to one, 7-6. The 'Jacks went on a 6-0 run with a kill from Kennedy Jones, Izabella Ortiz, and Molly Cravens, 13-6. Both teams traded blows the rest of the set, but SFA was able to maintain their lead and secure a second set victory, 25-20.
The 'Jacks once again started a set with a 3-0 run and eventually saw the Lions tie the game up at five. Later on, SLU went on a four-point spurt to extend their lead to 10-6. The Lions had several more three-point runs that grew their lead, but the 'Jacks continued to fight back and cut the lead down to five off a three-point run of their own. It was too little too late though as the Lady Lions secured a 25-19 third set victory.
SFA continued the trend of leading early in sets with a 4-2 lead to start off the fourth. Both teams exchanged blows until SFA went on a five-point run to take a 13-9 lead. The 'Jacks continued to hold a steady lead the rest of the fourth set and finished the set on a four-point spurt that was capped off by a setter dump kill from Jayden Flynn for a 25-18 fourth set victory.
SLU took all the momentum from SFA as they began the fifth set with a 5-0 run. SFA responded with a four-point run of their own, 5-4. The Lady Lions went on a 6-0 spurt to give them a commanding 11-4 lead and there was not much the 'Jacks could do to stop the Lions who won the fifth set by a score of 15-6.

SFA will head back to the homely confines of Nacogdoches for their final two home games of the regular season starting with McNeese on Thursday, November 7th at 6:00 p.m.
