
Lumberjacks Head to Thibodaux for Key SLC Matchup with The Colonels

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (5-3, 3-2) head to Thibodaux, Louisiana for a key SLC battle against the Nicholls State Colonels (4-4, 2-1) on Saturday, November 2nd at John L. Guidry Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm.
Series History
Saturday will be the 37th meeting between the Lumberjacks and Colonels with SFA holding a 25-11 series lead over Nicholls. SFA has lost the last four meetings against Nicholls but are 6-4 in the last 10 games. The series dates to October 20th, 1984, a Colonels 25-21 victory. The most recent meeting was on September 21st, 2019, a 48-30 Nicholls win.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks returned to the win column last week after defeating the Houston Christian Huskies 55-6 on homecoming in Nacogdoches.
The offense lit up the East Texas night totaling 561 yards of offense while and scoring 38 unanswered points to secure the victory. The defense was also on display, holding the Huskies to just 208 total offensive yards and did not allow a single HCU touchdown. The defense also pitched a second-half shutout and added to their team turnover total with two turnovers forced.
Sam Vidlak had another great performance, throwing for 316 yards and tying a season and career-high with five touchdown passes. This was his third game of the year throwing for over 300 passing yards and his second game of the year with five passing touchdowns. His performance against HCU also earned him Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Jaylen Jenkins led the rushing attack with 21 carries for 110 yards and Jordan Nabors led the receiving corps with three catches for 108 yards and one touchdown. Nabors lone touchdown came off a 96-yard touchdown catch and run as Vidlak found Nabors wide-open over the middle. The 96-yard touchdown was the second longest in Lumberjacks history only behind a 97-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Jones to Mikhael Ricks in 1997. Freshman Clayton Wayland also had a breakout game for the 'Jacks catching his first two touchdowns of his collegiate career. Trashawn Adams also recorded his first career punt return for a touchdown to add to the offensive onslaught and the first Lumberjacks punt return for a touchdown since Xavier Gipson in 2022. He was named honorable mention offensive Player of the Week.
The defense was stout again, holding the Huskies offense to 82 rushing yards and 126 passing yards. The defense added two turnovers to their season total as Tim Muhammad collected the first interception of his collegiate career and Jermaine Brown recovered a Huskies fumble.
Jermaine Brown led the way on defense with nine total tackles. Ed Bobino applied pressure all night as he collected 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. Josiah Cotton lived in the backfield as well, collecting 1.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.
A Look at Nicholls
The Colonels are coming off their second straight win as they defeated McNeese 24-19 last Saturday.
Pat McQuaide led the way for the Colonels offense going 18-for-34 for 178 yards and one touchdown along with an interception. Miequle Brock led the rushing attack for Nicholls with nine carries for 101 yards and one touchdown. Terry Matthews led the receiving corps with eight catches for 94 yards.
Jake Dalmado had a massive game on defense for the Colonels recording 10 total tackles, four tackles for loss, four sacks, one pass breakup and three quarterback hurries. Eli Ennis also had a big game collecting nine total tackles, one interception, and three quarterback hurries.
