
Katherine Holtman Ties Career High in Kills as Ladyjacks Fall in Five to Lady Lions

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (15-6, 7-1 SLC) hosted the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (17-4, 9-0 SLC) in a heavyweight battle for first place in the conference.
This matchup lived up to hype as neither team held more than a three-point lead in the first set until SFA went on a four-point spurt to take a 10-4 lead. The 'Jacks did not take their foot off the gas as they went on a mini three-point run and extended their lead to 15-8. The Ladyjacks finished the first set on a 6-1 run to take a 25-14 first set victory.
In the second set, SFA quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead with kills from Kennedy Jones, Katherine Holtman, and Kyanna Creecy. Both teams were successful in siding out until SFA's mini three-point run which put the 'Jacks up 17-10. SLU cut the lead down to four, but SFA was able to secure a 25-20 second set victory.
SFA jumped out to a 4-2 lead as they tried to secure a three-set victory over SLU. SLU had other plans as they went on a four-point spurt that put SLU up 9-5. SFA cut the lead down to one, but SLU went on a 6-2 run to bring their lead back up to five. The Lady Lions continued to extend their lead on a four-point run, 22-14. SFA then fought back with a 5-1 run of their own, but it was too little too late as the Lady Lions secured a 25-20 third set victory.
SLU took all the momentum as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead before SFA cut the lead back down to one with a four-point run, 5-4. Both teams traded blows until SLU went on a four-point run which put them up 14-9. The Lady Lions continued to maintain their lead, but the 'Jacks slowly chipped away and brought the lead down to two looking to make a major comeback and win the match. A kill from Holtman made the set score 24-22 as the home crowd exploded. The Lady Lions were able to get a kill on the next play to send the match to a fifth set.

SLU tied the set back up at five and then both teams started siding out until the Lions went on a five-point run to take a 12-8 lead. SFA went on a 4-1 run and cut the lead down to one off of a kill from Ortiz, 14-13. However, SLU was able to get a kill on the next play which secured their second reverse sweep against SFA this season.

SFA will return to the Pressure Cooker for two games next week beginning with a matchup against Lamar on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
