Nathan Kapel Finishes First in 800m Collegiate Debut

HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin track and field team traveled to Yeoman Field House to participate in the Robert Platt Invitational. Nathan Kapel continued his impressive first season as a collegiate runner as he won the 800m.
For the first time as a collegiate runner, Kapel finished first place. He ran a time of 1:51.64 that claimed the top overall spot in the men's 800m. Nathan has made an immediate impact as a Lumberjack as he also currently holds the school record in the mile.
SFA had two top ten finishes in the men's high jump. Nicholas Grullon finished 8th place and Hunter Murphy finished 10th. Both jumpers finished with a distance high of 2.03m. "Our men's high jumpers, specifically Hunter Murphy and Nicholas Grullon jumped well and competed hard", said Head Coach Robert Hansen.
The men and women's long jumpers were headlined by Sheldon Noble and Faith Nze. Noble finished 5th in the men's long jump, with his 7.47m jump. Faith also finished 5th in the women's long jump with 5.73m.
"I was very pleased with the long jumper's men and women. Sheldon and Faith set new indoor personal bests and they were aggressive throughout the entire process", said Coach Hansen.
SFA had notable debut performances from Devon Judelson and Wyatt Hoover in the men's 3k. Judelson placed 18th with a time of 8:31.54 and was followed by Wyatt Hoover's time of 8:32.76 that placed him 20th.
SFA's next opportunity to compete will come on February 2nd. The Lumberjacks will travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Charlie Thomas Invitational. The Invitational will be hosted by Texas ATM.
