HOUSTON, Texas- Stephen F. Austin will be traveling to the Yeoman Field House to participate in the Robert Platt Invitational. This will be SFA's third opportunity to compete this season. The Lumberjacks will also have a group traveling to Boston to take part in the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
The Robert Platt Invitational will be hosted by Houston University and will consist of a very high-quality field. Head Coach Robert Hansen looks at this meet as a great challenge that will do a good job building his team as they progress through the 2024 season.
Nathan Kapel and Breyunna Dowell will headline the Lumberjack squad, as they recently received WAC Male and Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Dowell will continue to compete in the women's weight throw. "She's had a great two weeks of training and she's looking to build momentum as we get closer to championship season", said Coach Hansen.
Nathan Kapel will step away from the mile and compete in the 800m race, a race that he has not competed in for several years. "He has been looking stronger as he continues to acclimate to his new home here in Nac", said Coach Hansen.
"Our throwers are poised to have a great weekend and our sprinters are excited to get out there and demonstrate what we've seen here in practice, they're talented and capable of great things", said Head Coach Hansen.
SFA's next opportunity to compete will come on February 2nd. The Lumberjacks will travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Charlie Thomas Invitational. The Invitational will be hosted by Texas ATM.
