NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Abilene Christian Wildcats defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
SFA entered the match against Abilene Christian coming off a tie against the Tarleton State Texans. The game was delayed by 45 minutes due to lightning in the area. ACU got on the scoreboard first as Thorn Chayse scored in the 25th minute for the Wildcats. That would be the score at halftime as Logan Pilgreen, making her second consecutive start in goal for SFA, faced five total shots on goal in the first half and stopped four of the five. The second half saw a much quieter offensive game as neither team scored a goal until Thorn Chayse scored her second goal of the game in the 86th minute to put ACU ahead 2-0.
Logan Pilgreen made six saves and played the entire 90 minutes in goal for SFA. Ava Shannon strung together another strong performance for the Lumberjacks as she tallied three shots while Avery Brandt, Mariona Garcia Dalmases, Reaganne Crane, Ella Morgan, and Lilian Adams all recorded shots for SFA as well. Reaganne Crane and Ella Morgan both recorded shots on goal for SFA, but they were unable to find the back of the net against ACU goalkeeper Savanna Alba. Morgan Donohue, Avery Brandt, Mariona Garcia Dalmases, and Gabrielle Gipson all played the full 90 minutes for SFA.
The Lumberjacks hit the road next week for a two-game road trip starting on Thursday, September 28th when they square off against the Utah Valley Wolverines at 8:30 p.m. CT.
