NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks released their 2023-24 season schedule Wednesday afternoon. The Lumberjacks have 33 games scheduled on the year including 15 home games at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The 2023-24 season tips off with the Lumberjacks opening on Monday, November 6th at home against North American University.
"We have a very competitive schedule this season," said head coach Kyle Keller. "The WAC, rated as the 11th toughest conference in college basketball, is now playing a full 20-game double round robin schedule that will truly test us each night."
Two other top non-conference games at the Sawmill include old foes University of New Orleans and Louisiana Tech. "We kicked off our first day of practice this past Monday and we have had a great sense of urgency and work ethic to our team as we prepare for the season and our home opener on November 6th vs. North American. We truly have challenged our team this upcoming season like no other year," said Keller.
SFA will make their first road trip of the season, a 13-day trip facing Middle Tennessee (Nov. 9th), Northwestern State (Nov. 13th), followed by the Cayman Islands Classic. The fifth edition of the event will tip-off Nov. 19-21 at The John Gray Gymnasium featuring Stephen F. Austin, Drake, Loyola Marymount, Marshall, Oakland, Ole Miss, Utah State and Wake Forest. The Cayman Islands Classic will be a bracket format tournament. The Lumberjacks face Loyola Marymount on November 19th in their first game of the Classic.
Kyle Keller's Lumberjacks will come back to William R. Johnson Coliseum to face Tarleton State University on Wednesday, November 29th, in what is SFA's first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game of the season. Stephen F. Austin will then travel to Abilene Christian University on December 2nd to play in their second conference game of the season.
SFA then goes on a five-game non-conference swing that begins with a matchup at home against Louisiana Tech on December 5th. The Lumberjacks hit the road again on December 9th to play at Wyoming. Stephen F. Austin finishes up their non-conference schedule with three straight games at home that include New Mexico State (Dec. 19th), Paul Quinn (Dec. 22nd), and New Orleans (Dec. 29th).
"I'm excited about the WAC-CUSA Challenge this year and hosting New Mexico State in the Sawmill. As part of the Challenge, we will set an early barometer for ourselves playing at Middle Tennessee State in November. The Cayman Classic will have three of the top 80 teams from last season. I am looking forward to our match-up with Loyola Marymount in the first round," Keller said.
The Lumberjacks resume conference play on January 4th with a trip to Edinburg, Texas to play against UTRGV. SFA travels back to William R. Johnson Coliseum on January 6th to play against UTA. Stephen F. Austin hits the road for a two-game road trip that starts with Utah Tech on January 11th and finishes with Southern Utah on January 13th.
SFA will then return home for a four-game stretch (Jan. 18 – Feb. 1) that will feature Seattle (Jan. 18th), Grand Canyon University (Jan. 25th), California Baptist (Jan. 27th), and Utah Valley (Feb. 1st). The Lumberjacks will then start the back half of their conference schedule with a visit to Tarleton on February 3rd.
Stephen F. Austin will be back at home on February 8th to play against UTRGV before getting back on the road to play against UTA on February 10th. The Lumberjacks will be back at home for the last home game of the regular season against Abilene Christian on February 17th.
