
Ladyjacks Defeat Tulane in Four at Jaguar Invitational

MOBILE, Ala.- Stephen F. Austin defeated Tulane University 3-1 in the 'Jacks final game of the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama.
Tulane quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set. SFA earned back-to-back points to cut the lead down to one, 4-3. Tulane went on a mini three-point run to take an 8-4 lead, but then the 'Jacks roared back with a four-point run which tied the game at 10. Points were traded back and forth until Tulane went on a four-point run of their own to take a 22-18 lead. SFA would not go down without a fight as they tied it up at 22 with another four-point run. The Green Wave won the final three points of the first set as they won 25-22. Early on in the second set points were traded, but Tulane committed five attack errors in a row which gave the Ladyjacks an 11-7 lead. Later in the set SFA had a four-point spurt to extend their lead to 19-13. The 'Jacks were able to hold off a surge from Tulane and win the second set 25-19. The back and forth trend continued early in the third set until SFA went on a six-point run that gave them a 16-13 lead. Tulane won the next point, but the 'Jacks then scored five in a row as they took a commanding 21-14 lead. The third set ended with another 25-19 victory for SFA. The Ladyjacks went on another six-point spurt in the middle of the fourth set and took a controlling 20-12 lead. Each team scored five more points before the 'Jacks put the game away with a 25-17 fourth set victory.
SFA led Tulane in points (67-65), kills (49-46), and digs (77-64). Ielan Bradley led the team with 13 kills followed by Izabella Ortiz who had 10. Camryn Hill led the 'Jacks with 19 digs, one off of her career-high, followed by Haley Hoang with 17 and Ariana Pagan with 12. Maddy Bourque led SFA with 21 assists, followed by Jayden Flynn who recorded 19. Ortiz led the team with eight blocks followed by Bradley who recorded six.
The 'Jacks will be back in Nacogdoches to host the first SFA Tournament of the 2023 season. They will play Cal Poly on Thursday, August 31st at 6 p.m., Nicholls on Friday, September 1st at 4 p.m., and Southern Miss on Saturday, September 2nd at 1:30 p.m.
