Dickinson's Huge Day Leads Utah Valley Past SFA 8-3

OREM, Utah- The Lumberjacks dropped the rubber match of the three game series vs Utah Valley this afternoon, 8-3. The Jacks dropped to 21-25 (11-15 WAC) while Utah Valley improved to 25-21 (11-11 WAC).

On a beautiful 55 degree day in Utah, the Wolverines had their offense working early. Daniel Dickenson continued to be a thorn in the Jacks side as he led off the game with a solo shot to left. In the second, Utah Valley really poured it on as they put a four spot up. Garrett Broussard hit an RBI double before Brandon Luna clubbed a two run shot of his own. Dickenson then hit his second home run in as many at bats as it was 5-0 at the end of the inning.

In the fourth, the Jacks got a run back when Cody Fleischer grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Clayton Loranger. That was all the Jacks could get that inning as they stranded two. In the bottom of the fourth, Dickinson would homer again, this time taking a 1-1 pitch over the center field wall. It's safe to say that the Lumberjacks will be happy not to see Dickinson hit against them for a while.

Barrett Rose hit a two run homer in the eighth to make it a 7-3 ballgame, but Brandon Luna put the finishing touches on the win with his second homer for the Wolverines.

Jason Gonzalez and Caleb Rutledge were solid out of the pen for SFA, combining for four innings of one run ball. They had five strikeouts between them and only gave up three hits.

The Jacks will be back in action Wednesday against Louisiana Monroe. That game starts at 6:30 p.m.
