NACOGDOCHES, Texas: The Jacks host Lamar for a three game set this weekend. SFA comes into the series at 21-25 and 12-15 in the WAC, while the Cardinals sit at 27-20 overall and 10-11 in the WAC.
A look at the Lumberjacks:
SFA is once again led by a high-powered offense with five players hitting above .300, and they look for that offense to continue to lead them this weekend. Alex Rogers is the guy that opposing pitching staffs fear, as the leadoff man is hitting .374 with a 1.090 OPS on the season, and he's been even better in conference play, as he's hitting .392 with an OPS over 1.100 over that time. He also leads the team with eight stolen bases in WAC play. He's not the only Jacks player hitting well over the last couple of months, as Cole Hill is providing solid production in conference play. He's hitting .368 with a .930 OPS, also trailing Rogers for the team lead in doubles with seven. Peyton Parker has cooled off lately, but he's still been solid, hitting .351 with six homers on the season while stealing 14 bases, which lead the team. The Lumberjacks offense has been great all year and they aim to continue it this weekend.
On the mound for the Jacks will be some combination of Joe Richter, Conner Woods, and Cade Stapleton. Richter leads the starters with a 5.03 ERA, while Woods has given up the least walks of the three with 22. Stapleton leads the team in innings pitched with 55 and two thirds, while Woods is closely behind with 54. The Lumberjack pitching staff will look to keep the game within reach while the offense does what it does best.
A look at the Cardinals:
The Cardinals boast a solid offense as well, with Ryan Snell being a dangerous bat in the middle. He comfortably leads the team with 16 home runs, and he has a 1.055 OPS. Ben McNaughton has been a terror on the base paths, stealing a whopping 24 bases in 29 attempts on the season. Tanner Wilson leads the team in average with a .336 clip. While their offense may be a little top heavy, the Cardinals definitely have the firepower to play with anyone. On the pitching side, Brooks Caple and Jacob Ellis lead the staff, as they have thrown over 100 innings combined. Caple leads the team with a 3.37 ERA, while Ellis has big time strikeout stuff with 72 on the year. The Cardinals staff has been solid from top to bottom this year, and can lean on multiple arms out of the pen. The team as a whole has a 3.96 ERA on the year, and they will look to keep the Lumberjacks bats quiet this weekend.
