Adams and Brown Homer Late against Tarleton to Stay Undefeated in Extra Innings

The Lumberjacks had to fight back early in this match as two lead-off singles in the bottom of the second inning turn into two runs for Tarleton as an infield error followed by a squeeze bunt allowed the baserunners to score. After a walked batter for Tarleton, more havoc came down on the 'Jacks as a groundball to shortstop quickly went south as the throw was unable to be scooped by first and the two runners on base came all the way around to score. The series of unfortunate events gave the Texans an early 4-0 lead after two.
The 'Jacks picked themselves up in the next half inning as Cal Martin took advantage of a bases-loaded opportunity and drove in two runs with a single through the left side. Cole Hill added one more in the inning with a sacrifice fly, brining SFA's deficit down to one. The Texans, however, took two of those runs back in the bottom of the third as two walks, a single, and another infield error by the 'Jacks allowed the Texans to exploit the Lumberjacks' miscues.
Clayton Loranger's second hit of the day was a productive one as he came in clutch in the top of the fourth with a two-out, RBI single, bringing the score to 6-4.
Benny Emmons III came into relief in the third inning and dominated on the mound, going 5.2 innings while allowing no runs to score and striking out four.
The turning point of the game occurred in the eighth inning when the Lumberjacks led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Sam Adams then stepped up and delivered the first heroic moment of the night for SFA as he crushed a three-run go-ahead home run, giving the Lumberjacks the first lead of the night at 7-6.
Garrett Gearner relieved Emmons in the bottom of the ninth hoping to close out the game and secure the win for the 'Jacks. But the Texans didn't go down without a fight, as they drove in a lead-off double with an RBI single to tie the game at seven. After walking two more batters following the single, Gearner worked his way out of another bases-loaded, two-out, tied-game situation by forcing the Texan at the plate to ground out to short and force the game into extras.
Nolan Brown had no plans of staying at the ballpark any longer and gave SFA the second biggest hit of the night with solo home run to left-field to give the Lumberjacks the lead back at 8-7.
The Texans continued to fight with the game on the line as they put runners on the corners with two outs. After allowing the runner on first to reach base via walk, Skyler Jaco came in to relieve Gearner and secured the last out for the Lumberjacks to get the win and record himself the save. Gearner was rewarded his fifth win of the season for being on the mound while the Lumberjacks scored their winning run.
SFA remains a perfect 6-for-6 in games that go into extra innings.
Six Lumberjacks had a multi-hit night, with Loranger and Peyton Parker recording three hits each. Adams led the way with three RBIs and Brown scoring the most runs with two.
The Lumberjacks look to secure the series win tomorrow against the Texans with game two at 3:00.
