The Lumberjack offense showed out in Louisiana this evening as all nine starters came across the plate to score a run. Eight of the starters recorded a hit and six collected an RBI.
The 'Jacks applied the pressure right from the start as Alex Rodgers and Clayton Loranger led the game off with back-to-back singles. Peyton Parker gave SFA their first runs of the game with two-run triple down the right field line and Tom Biggs capped off the three-run inning by bringing in Parker with an RBI infield single. The 'Jacks then took advantage of the ULM pitching staff struggling to find the strike zone in the second inning, as two walks and a hit-by-pitch led to another run scoring when Cody Fleischer took home on a wild pitch.
ULM was able to cut the lead in half and put two on the board in the bottom half of the inning but the Lumberjacks responded right back with two of their own with an RBI groundout from Cole Hill and a sacrifice fly from Nolan Brown. The Warhawks recovered one of those runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-3 after three innings.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the scoring resumed for the Lumberjacks when Hill brought in another run with a triple to left-center field, before getting thrown out at home trying to stretch it out for an inside-the-park home run. Loranger recorded his RBI in the top of the sixth with a single to left-center, bringing in Brown and moving Rodgers to third, who scored on a passed ball shortly after to extend the SFA lead to 9-3.
The Lumberjacks used the seventh inning to score some insurance runs and build on their lead. Barrett Rose recorded the third-straight hit to start off the inning to bring in one run and Fleischer capped off a dominant offensive night for the Lumberjacks with a three-run deep shot down the left-field line, Fleischer's third homer of the year.
ULM was able to get a small rally going in the bottom half of the seventh, putting up four runs on four hits along with one more run in the ninth, but their last efforts wasn't enough to catch up to the 'Jacks in the end.
Skyler Jaco picked up the win for SFA on the mound, going two innings, allowing no runs, and only letting up one hit. Tonight's win against ULM is Jaco's second of the year.
Rose collected the most hits and runs scored for the Lumberjacks on the night, going 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Fleischer accumulated the most RBIs with four, thanks to his three-run homer in the seventh. Cal Martin went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and a walk.
The Lumberjacks hope to keep the momentum rolling into Pine Bluff, Arkansas tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. to take on the Golden Lions for the second time on the season.
