GAME ONE
The Lumberjacks fell victim to one of the top-hitting teams in the country, giving up 21 runs and 26 hits in game one of the series with the Bearkats.
Before moving the game to Saturday due to heavy rainfall Friday night, Joe Richter kept the 'Jacks even with Sam Houston by pitching three scoreless innings to open up the game. The Bearkats were finally able to get a couple of runs off Richter in the fourth inning to take the lead. After two batters in the bottom of the fourth, the rain arrived and postponed the rest of the game until Saturday.
The game resumed with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and the 'Jacks took advantage of an infield error to score one run off a Cole Hill single.
The bats for the Bearkats came to life in the top of the fifth when they scored seven runs off six hits, two walks, and an error. They kept the bats hot going into the sixth by scoring two more off a solo home run, a single, and a double.
The Lumberjacks kept hope alive in the sixth through eighth innings after putting up four runs on the board during that span, thanks to some RBI singles from Tyree Carr, Tom Biggs, and Cal Martin. Alex Rodgers was also able to pick up an RBI after beating out a fielder's choice.
Up 11-5 going into the ninth, the Bearkats loaded up on insurance runs by scoring ten runs in their last at-bats of the game. Sam Houston went through the whole nine-man lineup and scored eight runs before recording the first out of the inning. In the top half of the ninth, Sam Houston recorded two home runs, three doubles, four singles, and two walks.
Martin had himself a solid game at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.
GAME TWO
Game two was unfortunately the same story for the Lumberjacks, as they gave up 17 runs off 16 hits to the Bearkats. 15 of Sam Houston's runs came from seven home runs.
SFA's two runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth when Sam Adams and Julian Thompson recorded back-to-back RBI singles.
While six Lumberjacks were able to collect a hit in the game, Thompson was the one player to record multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 in game two.
The Lumberjacks look to end the series on a high-note as they wrap up the series with Sam Houston tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
