Angel Scott Ties Career-High as Ladyjacks Axe the Bearkats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Sam Houston 71-56 Thursday night in the pink out game. SFA improves to 23-5 (13-3 WAC) while SHSU falls to 12-13 (8-7 WAC)
The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 6-0 lead off two three-pointers by Tyler McCliment-Call and Angel Scott. SHSU then went on a 10-0 run to take the lead, and grew their lead to 10 points, but SFA went on another 6-0 spurt to cut the lead down to four points. The Bearkats went into the first quarter break with a six point lead, 22-16. The teams traded blows early on in the second quarter, but SFA was able to regain the lead with 3:29 left in the first half. The Ladyjacks went into halftime with a three-point lead, 35-32. The Ladyjacks offense exploded in the third quarter largely due to the incredible three-point shooting from Scott who nailed four in the quarter. Scott's last three-pointer was a buzzer beater from halfcourt to end the third quarter and the Ladyjacks went into the fourth with a 14 point lead, 54-40. The fourth quarter was smooth sailing for SFA as they held a double-digit lead and almost extended it to 20 points. The Ladyjacks cruised to a 15 point win over the Bearkats.
SFA led SHSU in several stat categories including, bench points (18-8), field goal percentage (50.0-31.8), and three-point percentage (46.2-29.4). Scott tied her career-high with 18 points, Aiyana Johnson also scored 18 points, followed by McCliment-Call who recorded 10. Jordan Harrison and Zoe Nelson led the Ladyjacks with nine rebounds each, followed by Avery Brittingham who grabbed eight. Harrison and McCliment-Call led the team with five assists. Brittingham also led SFA with three blocks, and Harrison recorded two of her own. Harrison also led the team with two steals as well as Scott.
The Ladyjacks will begin the final week of the regular season on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:30 p.m. when they matchup against the New Mexico State Aggies.
