SFA women’s basketball earns five first-place votes, finishing behind Lamar
FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced its 2026 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll Tuesday morning, with the Ladyjacks selected second after receiving 113 points and five first-place votes.
The Southland Conference preseason poll is voted on by either an institution's head coach or sports information director, with one ballot per school. Voters rank the predicted order of regular-season finish, excluding their own institution.Â
SFA enters the 2026-27 season after winning back-to-back Southland Conference Tournament championships. The Ladyjacks welcome six newcomers, including two transfers and four true freshmen, while returning seven players from last season's roster. The returners are highlighted by 2026 Southland Conference Tournament MVP Myka Perry.
Leonard Bishop enters his fourth season at the helm of the Ladyjack Basketball program with a 76-28 career record, just 24 wins shy of 100. Bishop and the Ladyjacks open the season Nov. 4, hosting the University of Dallas on ISD Day. SFA begins Southland Conference play Dec. 2 against Northwestern State following its participation in the HoopFest Women's Challenge in Frisco. The Southland Conference Tournament is set for March 8-11.
