SFA Heads to Lake Charles to Take on McNeese and Ole Miss

LAKE CHARLES, LA - The Stephen F. Austin softball team will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana to play two games each against McNeese State University and the University of Mississippi.
A Look at SFA
With 13 games into the season, Mackenzie Bennett leads the way for the Lumberjacks in average (.342) and OPS (1.033). Bennett has the second most hits with 13, tied for second most doubles with two, tied for most triples with two, most RBI's with ten, and makes up two of SFA's six total home runs of the season so far.
Madison Nguyen has been a very productive leadoff hitter for the Lumberjacks as she leads the team in hits with 15 and is right behind Bennett in terms of average with .341. Nguyen has drove in nine runs and scored a team-leading seven runs.
Expect big things from Gaby Garcia when she steps up to the plate. While she might not have the best batting average this early into the season, when she gets a hit, she makes it count. Out of her seven hits so far, three have been for home runs (leads the team) and two have been for doubles. Out of those seven hits, she has drove in seven RBI's and scored five runs.
Alexis Telford has carried the way in the pitching circle for the Lumberjack's as in eight appearances, she has recorded a 2.86 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. Some of Telford's numbers include: three complete games, 36.2 innings pitched, 15 earned runs, 35 strikeouts, and has yet to allowed a home run so far.

A Look at the Cowgirls
McNeese heads into the tournament with a 8-3 record and a 5-2 record playing on their home field. This past week the Cowgirls took on and defeated #12 Washington and #22 North Texas.
The 'Jacks need to be ready on defense whenever there are runners on base, as the Cowgirls like to advance themselves and steal bases. Through 11 games, they are 26-for-32 on stolen base attempts.
Four Cowgirls come into the weekend with an average of at least .333. Chloe Gomez leads the way with a .393 average, 11 hits in 28 at-bats. Jil Poullard leads the team with a 1.042 OPS as she has two home runs so far into the season. Poullard is tied for the most RBI's on the team with seven.
Whitney Tate has been dominant in the pitching circle for McNeese. In the four games Tate has started in, she has completed three of those games, picked up 17 strikeouts, recorded a 1.66 ERA, and a 0.71 WHIP. Tate has allowed only 16 hits, six earned runs, and two walks in her four appearances.

A Look at the Rebels
The Rebels take on the Lumberjacks with a 6-4 record with all of their games being played at neutral sites so far.
Look for the ball to be put into play by the Rebels as seven of their starters have an average of at least .250. Mikayla Allee leads the way with 10 hits and a .385 average
Mya Stevenson puts the ball in play in a big way as she leads the team with three home runs, six RBI's, and a 1.002 OPS.
Aynslie Furbush is the ace for the Rebels as she comes into Lake Charles with a 3-1 record, one complete game, 1.11 ERA, and a 0.91 WHIP. In 25.1 innings, Furbush has allowed only four earned runs and six walks.
