Softball Drops First Game of Cowgirl Classic

LAKE CHARLES, La.- McNeese State defeated Stephen F. Austin 4-3 Friday night in the opening game of the Cowgirl Classic. SFA falls to 6-8 while MSU improves to 9-3.
McNeese jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning and doubled their lead in the third inning. The Ladyjacks came back and tied the game in the top of the fifth off of a sacrifice fly from Sydnee Hebert that scored Mallory Webb. Emily Berryhill then hit a single to left center which allowed Camryn Middlebrook to score, 2-2. Mackenzie Bennett hit a double to left center to score Gaby Garcia and give SFA a 3-2 in the middle of the sixth inning. The Cowgirls scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and the victory.
Garcia led the team with two hits while Bennett, Berryhill, and Middlebrook each recorded one. Bennett, Hebert and Berryhill each recorded an RBI against the Cowgirls. The Ladyjacks will be back in action Saturday, February 25th for games against Ole Miss and McNeese at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
