SFA Goes 1-1 in the First Day of the Getterman Classic

WACO, Texas- Stephen F. Austin played Army and Baylor in the first day of the Getterman Classic. SFA defeated Army, 2-0 and lost to Baylor 3-0. SFA moves to 5-4, while Army falls to 2-3 and Baylor improves to 5-1.
Game 1
The Lumberjacks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, when Camryn Middlebrook doubled to left field and then Mackenzie Bennett doubled to right center which drove in Middlebrook, 1-0. The final run of the game was scored off of the bat of Gaby Garcia. In the bottom of the fourth inning Garcia hit her third home run of the season to center field and give the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead.
Sydnee Hebert and Bennett led the team with two hits, followed by Middlebrook and Garcia who each recorded one hit. Bennett and Garcia recorded the two RBIs in the game. Middlebrook and Lexi Benson also drew walks. Alexis Telford recorded her second complete game win, and only allowed three hits and struck out seven batters.
Game 2
SFA's second game of the Getterman Classic was a matchup with the host school Baylor. The Lumberjacks reunited with a former teammate in Shaylon Govan, who is now the starting first baseman for the Bears. Baylor scored one run in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the fourth to give them a 3-0 win.
Baylor's Dariana Orme pitched a perfect game, allowing no hits, runs, walks and struck out 10 'Jacks. Brooke Gainous pitched six innings, allowed nine hits, three runs, and recorded four strikeouts.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action for the second day of the Getterman Classic, Saturday, February 18th at 10 a.m. as they matchup with Longwood University and 12:30 p.m. as they face No. 1 Oklahoma.
