Softball Drops the Final Two Games at the Gentleman Classic

WACO, Texas- Stephen F. Austin played against Longwood and No. 1 University of Oklahoma, in their final day at the Gentleman Classic. Longwood defeated SFA 7-4, while Oklahoma defeated the Lumberjacks 22-0. SFA falls to 5-6.
Game 1
The Lumberjacks got off to an early start in the 1st inning, as Mackenzie Bennett had a solo home run to left field. Madison Nguyen hit a sacrifice RBI, scoring Sydney Carithers and giving SFA a 2nd inning 2-1 lead. However, the Lumberjacks would proceed to give up six runs through the 2nd and 3rd, giving the Lancers a 7-2 lead. Madison Nguyen was able to hit a RBI triple, scoring Mallory Webb in the top of the 4th. Mackenzie Bennett would score one more for SFA in the 7th, on a Gaby Garcia RBI single. Stephen F. Austin loses to Longwood 4-7. Alexis Telford is now 3-3 as a starting pitcher this year.
Game 2
The Lumberjacks found themselves in an early 0-4 deficit, in the 1st inning. Mackenzie Bennett was the solo hit for the Lumberjacks. The Sooners would go on to post eight combined runs through the 2nd and 3rd inning, before posting 10 runs in the bottom of the 4th. SFA was unable to bounce back in the top of the 5th, losing 22-0. The Sooners posted 22 runs on an impressive 19 hits, through four innings of play.

The Lumberjacks will be back in Nacogdoches, Texas on February 21st. SFA will be hosting Lamar for a double header. The first game will begin at 3:00 p.m. followed by the second game at 5:30 p.m.
