Ware Scores 19 in Lumberjack's Win against UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas - Stephen F. Austin defeated UTRGV 82-72 as they secure the win on the road bringing home some momentum. The Lumberjacks improve to 16-9 (WAC 8-4) and the Vaqueros fall to 12-14 (WAC 3-10).
The Lumberjacks started the game with a solid first half, as Roti Ware started off his highlighted night with an opening three-pointer. The 'Jacks grew their lead to 11-4 within the first five minutes and held a steady lead for the rest of the half. SFA had their biggest lead of the half at 37-25 with two minutes remaining, but after a small run by UTRGV, they went into half with a 37-31 lead. Ware had a dominant first half, scoring 14 points, going 6-for-8 on the field, and picking up the only two three-pointers in the first half for the 'Jacks. SFA played a strong defensive first half beyond the arc, as they held the Vaqueros to just two three-pointers on 11 attempts.
The 'Jacks came out of the half firing on all cylinders as they went on a 18-6 run, growing their lead to 55-37. During that run, SFA was able to connect on four shots beyond the arc, three coming from none other than Latrell Jossell. The Lumberjacks extended their lead to as high as 18 points at 61-43 and was able to ride on their sizable lead for the rest of the game as they didn't allow the Vaqueros to come within a ten-point differential the whole half. The defense held UTRGV to only twenty shots in the field during the half, and the biggest run they allowed was a five-point run.
Four Lumberjacks reached double figures tonight, with Ware leading the way with 19 points. Ware went 3-for-5 beyond the arc and also recorded five rebounds, four assists, and a team-leading three steals. Jossell also went 3-for-5 beyond the arc, as well as a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity line, and totaled 16 points on the night. Nana Antwi-Boasiako dropped 10 points, as he was perfect on all his attempts on the field tonight, going 3-for-3 along with 4-for-4 on free-throw attempts. Jalil Beaubrun recorded a season-high 10 points tonight and also lead the team with eight rebounds.
The Lumberjacks were able to beat the Vaqueros in majority of the statistical categories including: field goal percentage (49.2-40.4), three-point percentage (40.0-21.1), free-throw percentage (84.2-66.7), bench points (29-12), fastbreak points (20-16), steals (10-9), points off turnovers (30-13), points in the paint (42-34), and second chance points (17-12).
The Lumberjacks finally return home this Wednesday, February 15th to take on Tarleton State with tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
