
Lumberjacks on the road to face the Tarleton Texans

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (3-5, 0-3) are on the road this week to face the Tarleton State Texans (6-3, 2-2) in a conference matchup on Saturday November 4, 2023. Kickoff is set for 6 pm CT at Memorial Stadium.
Matchup History
Saturday's matchup will be the 16th meeting between the two programs. The all-time series is currently led by the Lumberjacks, 11-4. The last meeting between the two teams was October 15, 2022, in Nacogdoches at Homer Bryce Stadium where the Lumberjacks won 41-24 over the Texans.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks offense had a good performance against the ACU Wildcats despite the loss. Redshirt senior Preston Weeks made his first career collegiate start at quarterback against the Wildcats. Weeks had a career high performance in the game with 278 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. Sophomore Jerrell Wimbley also had a career performance for the 'Jacks rushing for 165 yards on 20 attempts and one touchdown.
Sophomore Kylon Harris continues to have a great season as he caught five passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. Harris' touchdown extended his streak to six consecutive games with a receiving touchdown. Junior wide receiver Ty Love tied his season and career high of 65 receiving yards on one reception that went for a touchdown. His touchdown catch was also the first of his career.
The Lumberjack defense struggled to contain the Wildcats' rushing game as they rushed for 272 yards while passing for 145 yards. Aaron Sears led the way once again for the defense with 11 total tackles and one pass breakup. Jermaine Brown and Aaron Austin helped, each had 10 total tackles. Brown added on three quarterback hurries and one pass breakup on the night while Austin had two tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. Charles Demmings also recorded his second interception of the year.
A Look at Tarleton
The Texans are coming off a win against 18th ranked University of Central Arkansas in last weeks matchup. Quarterback Gabalis Victor went 12-for-21 and 168 passing yards. The Texans ground game was pivotal in the win as four rushers combined for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Kayvon Britten led the way with 156 rushing yards on 22 attempts and two touchdowns. The Texans notched four field goals coming from Adrian Guzman to help outscore the Bears on the way to the win.
The defense was able to hold the Bears offense in check all night keeping them to just 10 points through the first three quarters of play. After the Bears scored late in the fourth quarter the Texans defense was able to fend off a two-point attempt to tie the game and send it to overtime. Blake Smith led the way for the defense with 12 total tackles. The defense was able to accumulate six tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, seven pass breakups and one blocked kick.
