Ladyjacks Punch Their Ticket to the WAC Championship Match After Defeating Wolverines in Four

OREM, Utah- Stephen F. Austin defeated Utah Valley in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament Friday night, 3-1. The Ladyjacks are headed to the WAC Championship Match for the second consecutive year.
Ielan Bradley recorded the first kill of the match, but Utah Valley went on to score the next three points which gave them an early 3-1 lead. Points were traded back and forth for the rest of the set as neither team had more than a three-point lead the entire set. With the set tied at 24, the 'Jacks scored two in a row to win the first set 26-24. In the second set, SFA jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held a 10-5 lead later in the set before the Wolverines claws their way back. UVU had two separate three-point runs to take a slim 16-14 lead. The rest of the third set was highly contested but the Wolverines scored seven of the last ten points as they secured a 25-22 second set victory. The third set carried over the same energy from the second set as neither team held more than a two-point lead until SFA went on a 7-2 spurt to end the third set by a score of 25-20. The slugfest continued in the fourth set with SFA able to hold serve on multiple occasions and built up a slim lead, but UVU came back with a four-point run to take a one-point lead, 11-10. With the score tied at 19, the Wolverines went on another four-point run to take a 23-19 lead. SFA rebounded with a 5-1 run to give the 'Jacks a 25-24 lead. In extras, there were multiple plays that were challenged by both coaches as both teams were fighting tooth and nail for every single point. SFA went on a 3-0 run with kills from Tanishua Joseph, Ariana Pagan and Bradley to secure a 30-28 fourth set victory and punch their ticket to the WAC Championship Match.
SFA led UVU in points (84-71), kills (72-56), aces (5-3), assists (65-54), and digs (66-64). Bradley led the 'Jacks with 22 kills which is her second match this year with 20+ kills. Joseph followed Bradley with 13 kills of her own, followed by Izabella Ortiz and Camryn Hill who each recorded 10. Hill recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. Haley Hoang led SFA with 24 digs, followed by Hill's 11. Jayden Flynn recorded 31 assists and Maddy Bourque recorded 21. Ortiz led the defense at the net with four blocks, followed by Alleah Dallas, Bradley, Pagan, and Joseph who each recorded two. The 72 kills that the 'Jacks recorded in this match is the most that SFA has scored in a single-game this season.
The Ladyjacks will play No. 2 Grand Canyon in the WAC Championship on Saturday November 18th at 7:00 p.m. central time.
