
Lumberjacks On The Road to face the Utah Tech Trailblazers

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (3-2, 0-1) will travel to St. George, Utah to take on the Utah Tech Trailblazers (1-4, 0-0) for a conference matchup on Saturday, October 7th at Greater Zion Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT and 7:00 p.m. MT.
Matchup History
Saturday's matchup will be the third meeting between the two programs. The series is currently tied at 1-1. The 2022 matchup saw a shootout with the Trailblazers winning 47-44. The SFA loss ended a 13-game home win streak for the 'Jacks.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks offense had a huge game against Texas A&M Commerce with three career-high performances coming from Brian Maurer, Khi'yon Wafer, and Kylon Harris in the 'Jacks 56-27 win. Redshirt Junior quarterback Brian Maurer led the offense passing for 342 yards and five touchdowns. Redshirt Sophomore wide receiver Khi'yon Wafer also had a career high performance with three receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Kylon Harris capped off the massive offensive performance with a career-high 11 receptions for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Harris' three touchdown night was also the most by a Lumberjack receiver since Xavier Gipson against the University of Central Arkansas on November 13th, 2021. Anthony Williams also rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns while also tacking on one receiving touchdown in the win for a three total touchdown night.
The Lumberjack defense also had a day in the blowout win. The defense held the Lions to only 14 first half points while posting a shutout in the third quarter. The defense suffocated the Lions offense with eight tackles for loss, four pass breakups and seven quarterback hurries. Junior linebacker Jermaine Brown led the way for the 'Jacks defense with nine total tackles and one tackle for loss. Luke Watson also had nine tackles in the game while also totaling two tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. The turnover train continued for the Lumberjacks with Xavier Potts recovering a fumble by Lions quarterback Josh Magana in the third quarter. Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Ed Bobino III also had a blocked field goal in the performance.
A Look at Utah Tech
The Trailblazers are coming off of a 41-20 loss to Colorado State last Saturday. Quarterback Kobe Tracy had 21 completions for 185 yards and two touchdowns. The Tech rushing attack totaled 164 yards in the loss with Ronnie Walker Jr. leading the way for 83 total rushing yards.
The Utah Tech defense kept the game close through the first three quarters of play for a score of 20-27 entering the fourth quarter. Junior defensive lineman Syrus Webster led the way for the Trailblazers defense with 11 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss one sack, and one forced fumble. Despite struggling to contain the Rams' passing attack the defense had two interceptions one from Amari Duncan and one by Bryant Weekly.
