
'Jacks Stay in Utah for Match Against Thunderbirds

CEDAR CITY, Utah- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball team plays their second consecutive game in Utah as they square off with the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin will stay in Utah for their second consecutive game as they are coming off a commanding 3-1 win over Utah Tech on Thursday evening. The Ladyjacks dropped only their second set in conference play this season and won each of their three sets by six points or more. In the match against the Trailblazers, SFA led in points (73-61), assists (59-51), kills (64-52), aces (3-0), digs (67-55), and hitting percentage (.247-.190).
Tanishua Joseph and Ielan Bradley have formed an unstoppable duo for SFA as they continue to dominate opposing defenses. Bradley recorded a whopping 17 kills against Utah Tech, while Bradley continued her impressive freshman season with a new career-high 14 kills, followed by Izabella Ortiz's 11 kills. Ortiz and Joseph contributed on both ends as they each had three blocks in addition to their double-digit kills. Maddy Bourque fresh off surpassing the 2,000-career assist mark, continued to add to that number as she tied her career high in assists in a game with 31. Jayden Flynn continues to form a consistent duo with Bourque as she added 22 assists of her own and pitched in three kills as well. Meanwhile, three Ladyjacks posted double-digit digs for SFA as Haley Hoang led the team with 18 digs, followed by Camryn Hill's 13, and Ariana Pagan's 12 digs.
On the season, Ielan Bradley leads the team with 273 kills, while Jayden Flynn and Maddy Bourque have both passed the 400-assist mark on the season as they have 478 and 406 assists on the season respectively. Defensively, Haley Hoang continues to keep opposing offenses at bay as she leads the team with 345 kills, and Izabella Ortiz continues to make her presence felt as she has 108 blocks on the season, good for sixth in the entire nation. After last night's defensive performance, SFA has moved into a tie for second place with UC Santa Barbara in Total Team Blocks with 219 on the season. SFA will look to continue their dominance in conference play as they have won nine straight games and carry a 20-3 overall record, a 9-0 conference record, and a 5-2 away record into Cedar City.

The Southern Utah University Thunderbirds will wrap up their four-game home stand against SFA. The Thunderbirds carry a 5-14 overall record, a 1-8 conference record, and a 2-6 home record into this game against the Ladyjacks. In their most recent match against UT Arlington, the Thunderbirds lost a 3-2 thriller to the Mavericks at home. In the match against UTA, Southern Utah led in assists (56-15) and digs (48-46). So far this season Andrea Spasojevic has been the MVP for the Mavericks as she has contributed all over the court for them. She leads the team in kills with 171, service aces with 24, and digs 218. Meanwhile Teniyah Leuluai has formed a nice duo to Spasojevic as she leads the team with 496 assists on the year. Hana Makonova leads the team in blocks with 46 and is second on the team in kills with 138. The Thunderbirds will be looking to snap a three-game skid and claim a home win before hitting the road for a short two-game road trip.
