Riverside, Calif.- The California Baptist Lancers defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 4-1 in a late Thursday evening game.
The SFA Lumberjacks hit the road for their final three games which started with a trip to the Pacific Coast to square off with the CBU Lancers. The Lumberjacks carried plenty of momentum into this game as they were coming off the heels of a 2-1 home win on Sunday for Senior Day against Southern Utah. In the 20th minute, Jayme Bailey made her presence known as she attacked the CBU zone and was able to draw a penalty which allowed Ava Shannon to capitalize on a penalty kick, which she snuck into the lower left corner of the net to give SFA an early 1-0 lead. That goal was Shannon's first of the season as well as the first goal of her career. However, just over ten minutes later the Lancers answered back with a goal as Natalia Castro knotted the game up at one for CBU. In the 40th minute, Ava Westlund scored for CBU, and the Lancers led 2-1 at halftime. That score stayed the same for the majority of the second half until the 77th minute when Easton Seip scored for the Lancers and gave them a 3-1 lead. Syra Valdez would add one more goal for the Lancers in the 87th minute and CBU came away with a 4-1 home win as they have yet to lose a regulation conference match this season.
Lydia Sattler was given the nod in net for SFA, and she played the full 90 minutes while recording three saves. Ava Shannon was the MVP for SFA tonight as she recorded the lone goal for SFA and played the full 90 minutes. In addition to Shannon, Lily Hargrove recorded three shots with two shots on goal, while Mariona Garcia Dalmases and Jayme Bailey also recorded shots for the Lumberjacks. Shannon, Avery Brandt, Jamie Jezierski, Tiana Thompson, Kyra Guhl, and Ella Morgan all played the full 90 minutes for SFA.
The Lumberjacks continue their three-game road trip as they head back east to Phoenix to face off with the Grand Canyon Lopes on Sunday, October 15th at 3:00 p.m. CT.
