
Lumberjacks Hit the Road to Conway to face the Bears

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (3-3, 0-2) will travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on the University of Central Arkansas Bears (4-2, 2-0) for a non-conference matchup on Saturday October, 14th at Estes Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. CT.
Matchup History
Saturday's matchup will be the 17th meeting between the two programs. The all-time series is currently led by Central Arkansas 12-4. The last meeting between the two teams was November 12th, 2022 in Nacogdoches, Texas which saw an SFA loss by a score of 34-7. Saturday's game will not be a conference contest as it was scheduled before the formation of the UAC.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks rushing attack had a huge game against Utah Tech with a career-high performance coming from redshirt sophomore Anthony Williams. Williams rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown while also catching six passes for 82 yards and two receiving touchdowns. The performance was Williams second straight game with three total touchdowns. Quarterback Brian Maurer also had a good outing passing for 228 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 69 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Kylon Harris led the way once again totaling eight receptions for 86 yards and one touchdown. The touchdown from Harris made it four consecutive games with at least one touchdown.
The Lumberjacks defense applied pressure on Utah Tech quarterback Kobe Tracy all night despite the loss. The defense totaled three sacks, two quarterback hurries and six pass breakups, as well as one interception. Luke Watson once again led the way for the Lumberjacks defense totaling nine tackles, six solo and three assisted. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Lane also had a big game for the 'Jacks totaling seven tackles, two tackles for loss for a total of -15 yards, and a sack. Charles Demmings led the way for the pass defense with three pass breakups on the night. Redshirt sophomore Jalon Hunter recorded his first career interception in the game. Edward Bobino III continued to be a difference maker by blocking his second field goal of the year.
Lumberjacks' punter Max Quick also had a good game pinning the Trailblazers inside the 20 four times on the night. The redshirt senior had a long punt of 50 yards and averaged 46.6 yards per punt.
A Look at UCA
The Bears are coming off of a huge comeback victory over Southeast Missouri State last week which saw the offense score 32 points in the fourth quarter to win by a score of 38-33. Will McElvain had a massive game for the Bears passing for 397 yards and four touchdowns. Running back ShunDerrick Powell rushed for 36 yards on 13 attempts for the Bears. Myles Butler led the way for the receiving core with seven receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bears defense gave up 30 points through the first three quarters but held Southeast Missouri State to a field goal in the fourth quarter allowing the offense to come all the way back and win. Defensive back Tamaurian Wilson led the defense with nine total tackles, one interception and two pass breakups. The defense totaled five tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception and 12 pass breakups. Senior defensive back Cameron Godfrey also had a blocked kick in the game.
