
Volleyball Stays Undefeated Through Day 1 of SFA Invitational & Haley Hoang Reaches 1,000 Career Digs

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated McNeese State (3-0) and the University of South Alabama (3-1) to stay undefeated (6-0) on the season.
In the first game against MSU, SFA swept the sets winning 25-15 in the first set, 25-11 in the second set, and 25-22 in the third set. The Ladyjacks led the Cowgirls in points (53-39), kills (42-33), aces (5-1), blocks (6-5), assists (39-30), and digs (56-50). Ielan Bradley led the SFA scoring attack with 11 kills, followed by Izabella Ortiz who recorded nine. Bradley and Ortiz got help from Maddy Bourque and Jayden Flynn who recorded 19 and 16 assist respectively. Reigning WAC Defensive Player of the Week, Haley Hoang continue to lead the defensive effort of the Ladyjacks as she recorded 17 digs, followed by Ariana Pagan and Leah Powell who had nine.
In the primetime game of the tournament, SFA faced off against South Alabama. USA won the first set 25-20, but the Ladyjacks came back and won the next three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) to finish day one of the SFA Hampton Inn Invitational. SFA tied USA in points at 68, but led the Jaguars in kills (55-53), assists (53-52), and digs (75-71). Camryn Hill and Pagan both recorded double-doubles with 13 digs and 13 and 12 kills respectively. Hill led the Ladyjacks in kills. Bourque led the team with 28 assists, while Flynn recorded 20. Once again Haley Hoang led the Ladyjacks with 25 digs, including her 1,000 career dig which she recorded in the middle of the fourth set.
SFA will be back in action Saturday, September 3rd at 1:30 p.m. for the final match of the first SFA Hampton Inn Invitational as they faceoff against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
