Cross Country Opens at McNeese

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin cross-country teams get the 2022 season started this Friday at the McNeese Opener in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Head cross country coach Robert Hansen is excited to begin the season.
"The group is ready to compete and measure where they're at after a strong summer of training. But they also know that this is only the first brick in our house and that we'll continue to build off of this effort," Hansen said.
The team returns a strong group of athletes. Lewis Mills and Max Murphy each had a great 2021 campaign and were able to achieve spots on the All-WAC team. The men's team was recently ranked 15th in the South Central Region and will enter the season as the highest ranked team in the WAC.
On the women's side, the team is led by First Team All-WAC athlete Rachel Taylor and is looking to build on a strong 2021 season.
Taylor finished third at the WAC Tournament, set a school record, and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Both teams will next compete September 17th in Nacogdoches, Texas for the Lumberjack Invitational.
