
Cross-Country Heads to NCAA South Central Regionals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's Cross-Country teams travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the NCAA South Central Regionals on Friday, November 14th.
The women's race will begin at 9 a.m. CT followed by the men's race at 10 a.m. CT. There will be live runner updates on times at the meet. To follow all the live updates, click here.
The top four men and top four women will each qualify for the National NCAA meet on November 23rd in Madison, Wisconsin. The top two teams from both the men's and women's sides will also advance to the National NCAA meet.
"We're really excited and confident heading into the South Central Regional," said head coach Rob Hansen.
The men's team is currently ranked seventh in the South Central Regional and coming off a second-place team finish at the Southland Conference Championship (SLC) meet. SFA men's runner Elkana Kipruto take first place individually. The men's team also took home several post season awards as Riley Elliott and Ryan Binskin both earned All-Conference second team. For his first-place finish, Elkana was named first team All-Conference as well as being named Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
"Our men are coming off of a second-place finish at the Southland Conference Championship and we look forward to competing against some of the best teams in the country," said head coach Rob Hansen. "Elly (Elkana Kipruto) is feeling confident about running near the front of the race and our pack aims to run strong together."
The women's team is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Southland Conference Championship meet which saw Mercy Kipchumba make her Ladyjack debut and finish third overall. Valentine Jemutai finished fourth place in the meet. Mercy and
Valentine were both named first team All-Conference with their top seven finish at the meet.
"Our two headed monster at the front of our women's group is healthy and ready for their best race of the season," said head coach Rob Hansen. "Both have had great sessions in recent weeks, so we will extrapolate confidence from that. Our other ladies continue to push boundaries running as one together. I'm excited to watch this group compete and execute."
