Volleyball Goes 2-0 on the First Day of the SMU Tournament

DALLAS, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Volleyball team traveled to Dallas for the SMU Doubletree Invitational for matches against DePaul University and UC Irvine. SFA fought hard in both games and came out on top 3-1 against both teams.
In the first game against DePaul, SFA won the first two sets in extras (27-25, 26-24). DePaul took the third set 23-25. SFA won the fourth and final set of the game 31-29. Ariana Pagan and Ielan Bradley led the team with 15 kills and Haley Hoang led the team with 28 digs followed by Leah Powell who recorded 16. Maddy Bourque led the team with 31 assists followed by Jayden Flynn who recorded 24 assists.
In the second game against UC Irvine, SFA dropped the first set (26-28), but then won the next three sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-23) to win the game. Ielan Bradley led the team with 17 kills followed by Ariana Pagan who recorded 12 kills. Haley Hoang led the team with 14 digs followed by Leah Powell who recorded 12 digs. Leah Powell and Maddy Bourque recorded two service aces in this game. Maddy Bourque led the team for the second straight game with 31 assists followed by Jayden Flynn who recorded 13.
SFA plays their third and final game of the tournament Saturday, August 27th at 3 p.m. as they face off against host SMU.
