Volleyball Defeats Lopes in Four to Clinch a Spot in the WAC Championship

EDINBURG, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Grand Canyon 3-1 Friday night and clinched a spot in the championship game. SFA improves to 25-4, while GCU finishes with a 17-10 record.
The first set was very close as neither team held more than a four point lead. SFA came out victorious by a score of 25-23. The second set was more of the same until SFA was down 18-14 and then went on a five-point scoring run to take the lead back. The Ladyjacks had another four-point run before the set went into extras, but GCU fought back and won the second set 28-26. SFA flipped a switch in the third set and won the set courtesy of a five and four-point scoring run, 25-20. That momentum continued into the fourth set where the Ladyjacks had a five-point run early in the set and then ended the set by scoring the final four points of the match, 25-18.
SFA led GCU in points (83-63), kills (65-53), aces (8-3), blocks (10-7), assists (61-51), and hitting percentage (.192-.240). Ielan Bradley once again led the offensive attack for the Ladyjacks with 18 kills, followed by three other Ladyjacks wo had double-digits. Izabella Ortiz recorded 12 kills and Ariana Pagan and Payton Cerny each had 11 kills. Maddy Bourque recorded 27 assists, while Jaydent Flynn had 25. Ortiz had five total blocks, including her 100th of the season, followed by Bradley who had four blocks. Four Ladyjacks recorded double-digit digs; Pagan had 22 (10th double-double of the season), Camryn Hill recorded 20 (new career high), Haley Hoang had 16, and Bourque recorded 10 (third double-double this season).
SFA will play Utah Valley for the WAC Championship on Saturday, November 19th at 7 p.m. CT at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
