
Volleyball Wins 2022 WAC Championship & Three Players Earn All-Tournament Team

EDINBURG, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Utah Valley 3-1 in the WAC Championship match Saturday night. SFA improves to 26-4 while UVU finishes the season 18-11.
In the first set SFA was able to win back-to-back points to start the set and then continued to build their lead from there. The Ladyjacks went on a five-point scoring run and finished off the set scoring the last three points, 25-12. Utah Valley found their rhythm in the second set as they had several scoring runs of their own, but SFA was able to match that and come out of the set victorious by a score of 25-22. The third set was more of the same, but this time UVU held the advantage and won the third set, 25-20. The fourth set was another close set with team trading scoring runs and it came down to the final three points. SFA made it 24-22 after a kill by Ielan Bradley, but then UVU won the first attempted the Ladyjacks had at match point. Freshman, Camryn Hill recorded the final kill for the Ladyjacks that secured the championship and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
SFA led UVU in points (71-64), kills (55-50), blocks (11-9), assists (52-47), and hitting percentage (.252-.211). Bradley once against led the team in kills with 17, followed by Payton Cerny who had 11 and Ariana Pagan who recorded 10. Maddy Bourque had 28 assists, while Jayden Flynn recorded 20. Izabella Ortiz led SFA with six total blocks (two solo), followed by Cerny who had five blocks. Haley Hoang led the Ladyjacks with 11 digs, followed by Hill who had 10.
Bradley was named WAC Tournament MVP. She accumulated 46 kills and hit .426 throughout the tournament. Bradley also was one of the top blockers for SFA and finished with nine blocks. Bradley was not alone on the All-Tournament Team as Hoang and Ortiz joined her. Hoang recorded 40 digs and five aces during the tournament. Ortiz had 14 blocks, 25 kills, and hit .525 throughout the tournament.
SFA receives the WAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament and will find out who they are playing during the selection show which will broadcast live on ESPNU Sunday, November 27th at 6:30 p.m. CST.
