Volleyball Dismantles California Baptist to Advance to the Semifinals

EDINBURG, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated California Baptist, 3-0 in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament Thursday afternoon. SFA improves to 24-4 on the season while CBU finishes with a 12-14 record.
SFA struggled to find their rhythm early as CBU jumped out to a 9-4 lead, but then the Ladyjacks went on a 6-2 scoring run to bring themselves to within a point. SFA took the lead during a five-point scoring run which gave the Ladyjacks a 16-14 lead. The Ladyjacks went on to have a four-point scoring run which propelled them to a 25-19 set one victory. SFA jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set and did not look back. The Ladyjacks had a nine-point scoring run to make it 19-5 and won the set 25-10. In the third set, SFA started off with a four-point scoring run and never lost the lead as they cruised to a 25-17 victory.
SFA led CBU in points (57-33), kills (40-26), aces (7-2), blocks (10-5), assists (34-26), digs (52-39), and hitting percentage (.293-.075). First Team All-WAC honoree, Ielan Bradley led the offensive attack for the Ladyjacks with 11 kills, followed by Second Team All-WAC honoree Ariana Pagan with eight. Maddy Bourque recorded 17 assists, while WAC All-Freshman Team honoree Jayden Flynn had 11. Kelsey Harrington recorded seven blocks in this match, which ties her season high that she achieved against Tarleton. WAC All-Freshman Team honoree, Izabella Ortiz and Bradley followed Harrington with three blocks. Libero of the Year and Second Team All-WAC honoree, Haley Hoang led the defensive effort for the Ladyjacks with 13 digs, followed by Flynn who recorded nine.
SFA will play No. 3 Grand Canyon on Friday, November 18th at 4 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in the semifinals.
