
Baseball Builds Pitching Rotation By Adding Six To 2022 Signing Class

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin baseball program announced six signees this afternoon in Justin Bradford, Colton Griffin, Giancarlo Maldonado, Lawson Moreno, Dylan Mulchay, and Ryan Polansky.
Justin Bradford – 6-2 LHP
Justin makes the move to SFA while staying in his hometown of Nacogdoches. The Nacogdoches native is a left-handed pitcher from Nacogdoches High School. He was named 1st Team All District Pitcher and New Comer of the Year in the District. In his junior year (21-22), Justin made 12 appearances on the mound and recorded a 1.62 ERA, racked up 79 strikeouts, and had a record of 8-2. He was also ranked the 20th LHP in the state by PBR*.
Head Coach Johnny Cardenas said, "Bradford is a crafty left-handed pitcher who will give us a solid arm on our staff and make an immediate impact."
Colton Griffin – 5-11 MI
Colton is a left-handed hitting middle infielder from Spring, Texas and attends Klein Collins High School. PBR ranks Colton 30th in the state at his position.
Coach Cardenas noted, "Griffin is a sure handed infielder who will really solidify the play of our middle infield."
Giancarlo Maldonado – 5-5 C
Giancarlo comes to SFA from Helotes, Texas where he attends O'Connor High school. He is currently a catcher where PBR ranks him 18th at the position. In the 21-22 season, Giancarlo put up a .328 batting average, .455 on-base percentage, tallied 13 rbis, and 18 runs scored.
"Maldonado is a very athletic catcher who receives the ball extremely well that should give us depth behind the plate," said Cardenas.
Lawson Moreno – 6-2 LHP
Lawson currently attends Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas where he is a left-handed pitcher. He is the 21st ranked LHP in the state by PBR.
"Moreno is a big frame left-handed pitcher who we expect to be a key part of our staff in 2024," said Cardenas "will give us a solid left-handed option out of the pen as a freshman."
Dylan Mulchay – 6-3 RHP
Dylan makes the move from SFA from Austin, Texas where he is a right-handed pitcher for Vandegrift High School. For two years in a row, he was named All-District Performer and Academic All District.
Coach Cardenas said, "Mulchay is a very strong right-handed pitcher who should give us length in the bullpen and should look to pitch significant innings his freshman year."
Ryan Polansky – 6-0 LHP
Ryan is a left-handed pitcher from Indian Hills High School in Oakland, New Jersey. He is ranked in the top 12 LHPs in the state of New Jersey by Perfect Game and ranked in the top 15 overall players in New Jersey by AAU Baseball.
