Volleyball Takes Down UTRGV and Earns Their 20th Win of the Season

EDINBURG, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 3-1 Thursday night. SFA improves to 20-3 (8-2 WAC) while UTRGV falls to 19-5 (8-1 WAC).
The first set was hard fought as neither team seemed to have an edge until the end of the set when SFA won the final five points to end the set 25-20. The second set started out in a similar way, but UTRGV had a couple of four-point runs that gave them the edge as they won the second set 25-15. In the third set, SFA had a six point run in the middle of the set that gave them the lead and they never looked back as they won that set 25-23. The fourth set the teams traded four-point runs, but then the Ladyjacks went on another one later in the set to give them a 9-6 lead. The points continued to go back and forth until the game was tied up at 18. SFA won the final five points of the match as they won set four by a score of 25-18.
SFA led UTRGV in points (62-60), kills (50-48), blocks (8-6), assists (47-43), and digs (73-71). Ielan Bradley led the offensive attack with 16 kills, followed by Payton Cerny and Camryn Hill who each recorded 11. Hill also recorded her third double-double of the season as she led the team with 18 digs, which is a career high. Ariana Pagan and Haley Hoang followed Hill with 16 digs each. Maddy Bourque had 21 assists while Jayden Flynn had 18. Cerny and Jamyah Anderson each had four total blocks (three assists and one solo) in this match.
The Ladyjacks will be back at home for a homecoming matchup with New Mexico State at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 29th.
