NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA volleyball team used a balanced team effort to best in-conference foe Abilene Christian in straight sets on Thursday night, 3-0. The 'Jacks won by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 25-21 to improve to 11-3 overall and extend their winning streak to six matches and their home record to 7-0.
SET ONE
SFA would take a 22-18 lead late in the opening set after 20 minutes of back and forth play in which neither side could fashion or hold a substantial lead. Rosado paced the 'Jacks with five kills in the set.
SET TWO
SFA would get off to a quick 5-1 lead in the second set off of kills from Ielan Bradley and a service ace from Rosado. ACU closed the gap to 7-5 over the next few points, only to have SFA rattle off an 8-1 run to pull ahead 15-6. SFA continued to extend the lead out to a set-high 12 points for the first time on a Leah Powell kill to go ahead 22-10, and from there the 'Jacks closed out the set with kills from Payton Cerny, Rosado and an attack error by ACU.
SET THREE
Aft a close start to the third set, ACU turned a 10-9 deficit into a 13-10 lead with four quick points, prompting an SFA timeout. A Wildcat service error out of the timeout started a 3-0 run for SFA, aided by a Ariana Pagan service ace and a Powell kill to tie the set up at 13 apiece. Another Wildcat lead of four points was evaporated by strong play from SFA, tying the match up at 19-19 and forcing ACU to take a timeout.
