
Ladyjack Volleyball Sweeps Tarleton at Home With Offensive Outburst

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA volleyball team hit an impressive .356 on the day en route to a 3-0 sweep of WAC foe Tarleton State inside Shelton Gymnasium on Saturday, winning the sets by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-17. SFA improves to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in WAC play with the result, their seventh straight victory and eighth win at home.
SET ONE
After several minutes of close play by the two sides to open the match, SFAwent on a 4-1 run to open up a 10-6 lead, capped off by back-to-back-to-back kills from Payton Cerny, Ielan Bradley and Valeria Rosado. The Texans would battle back to close the gap to just one point at 13-12, but the 'Jacks pushed the lead back out to four (16-12) on consecutive kills by Leah Powell, Taya Mitchell and Cerny. The set would be tied multiple times down the stretch, but timely kills from Cerny, Ariana Pagana and Taya Mitchell closed out the narrow 25-23 victory.
SET TWO
In the second set, SFA would find itself holding onto a narrow 6-5 lead, before rattling off seven straight points to take a 13-5 lead. Tarleton answered with a 4-0 run of their own to trim the lead to 13-9, only to see SFA answer back with a 6-1 run to take a 19-10 lead, capped off by kills from Cerny and Rosado. SFA kept the visitors at bay the rest of the way, finishing off the 25-16 victory with a Leah Powell kill.
SET THREE
SFA started set three off hot, taking an early 5-2 lead off a Powell kill, only to see the visitors charge back to tie the set, after which the two sides battled back and forth for a short time. With the visitors holding a narrow 9-8 lead, SFA strung together five quick points, capped by a kill from Rosado, to open up a 13-9 lead. That lead held for the next few minutes as the set went on, until SFA, leading 20-17, rattled off five points in a row to wrap up the match, 25-17. Kills by Powell, Bradley and Kayla Grant propelled SFA the rest of the way.

• The 'Jacks hammered home 50 kills on the day, led by Powell's 12. Cerny chipped in 10, and Rosado added seven.
• Mitchell and Grant had three blocks apiece, while Bradley added a pair of blocks.
