HOW IT HAPPENED
SFA received the opening kickoff and promptly marched downfield to set up an opening score. While settling for a Chris Campos 36-yard field goal instead of a touchdown, the score set the tone for the day in what would quickly get out of hand. After forcing a three and out by the visitors, SFA was right back on the offensive, marching 73 yards in seven plays to set up a nine-yard scoring run by Korbyn White to give SFA a quick 10-0 lead.
On LU's ensuing possession and punt, a 38-yarder, Josh Thompson's 25-yard punt return set up another short field for SFA, who scored two plays later on a 1-yard plunge by Tre'Jon Henderson to push the lead to 17-0.
SFA's special teams continued to shine on the next Lincoln possession, as a blocked punt by Bruce Harmon was recovered by Tkai Lloyd in the endzone for a quick score. The score gave SFA its third straight game with a defensive or special teams score.
SFA added another score in the second quarter on a short pass from Trae Self to Lawton Rikel, capping off just a four-play, 24-yard drive set up by a big return from Thompson off a punt.
Henderson's second score of the game with 5:57 left to play in the half gave SFA a 38-0 lead, but the Oaklander's would answer SFA's scoring barrage with a touchdown of their own to end the first half. QB Cameron Burston's lone pass completion of the first half (0-9 previously) was a 52-yard bomb on the final play of the half that was hauled in by Faizon Knight to break the shutout.
SFA would tack on a four-yard touchdown run by Larry Jones III in the third quarter, and answered LU's second score of the night with a nine-point swing in the fourth quarter. With the Oaklanders backed up to their own 1-yard line and lined up to punt, the visitors opted to step out of the back of the endzone for a safety, and then punted the ball off to the 'Jacks. Lenard Lemons ran that safety punt back 67 yards for a score, resulting in a nine-point gain by the 'Jacks.
Austin Ogunmakin hauled in a one-yard score from Blake Short to cap off the scoring for the home side, who generated 388 yards of total offense.
