Lumberjacks Hold Their Own Against #16 Rice in Houston

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA soccer team held its own against the second ranked team faced by the program in the past four days, facing #16 Rice in Houston on Sunday and battling to a 2-0 result. The 'Jacks hung close in the overall shot count (18-14), and outshot the host Owls slightly in shots on frame (8-7), but weren't able to get the finishes needed to offset a pair of first-half goals by the Owls.

SFA held Rice scoreless for the first 36 minutes of gameplay before conceding in the 37th minute of play. Rice capitalized on a rebound off a save by Madeline Talbot two minutes later to double the lead heading into the halftime intermission. The 'Jacks did a good job on the defensive end in the second stanza, holding the hosts scoreless, but were unable to score on any of their three shots on frame in the period to pull a goal back.

Mattie Musser notched five total shots to lead her team, including three attempts on goal. Mariona Garcia Dalmases notched three shots in total and one on goal in support of the Lumberjack attack. Madeline Talbot turned aside five Owl shots in goal.
